Building a Personalized Learning Network - March 04, 2026

The purpose of a PLN, an abbreviation for Personalized Learning Network, is not limited to one group or another. A PLN is a tool that all groups can utilize efficiently, and most of the younger generations are already using PLNs without realizing it. But what exactly is a PLN? A PLN, at least in the sense that I have learned it to be, is a space for people in different parts of the world to share knowledge and ideas regarding a specific topic or group of topics. Teachers on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites, are one of many examples of this.

As part of one of labs for my EDU210 course, I researched what a PLN is. To be completely honest, they did not make much sense to me in writing. The assignment had us create an X account, formerly known as Twitter, to be a base for a PLN. This account followed over twenty accounts related to professional teaching, tips from other educators, and related fields. By doing this, I noticed the account would then have a feed of posts from other professionals in respect to teaching and questions about education. As is the issue with most social media platforms, there were a few random posts that were unrelated to what I was trying to follow but as I developed the PLN these posts seemed to become less.

Example of People I am Following

In the future I may use this PLN to network with fellow educators, keep myself up to date with best practices on a day-to-day basis, and ask any questions that may come up regarding the educational field. For now though, I will most likely use the account to provide ideas for my assignments related to education and try to build a network of help for future me.
